Wootton Bassett Volleyball Club
Chairman's Report 2008
I would like to thank everyone
for their contribution this year and in particular the efforts of the
committee, coach and assistants for their involvement and time, and to
those whom have made themselves available to represent the club at
WVA meetings.
I will let the coaches and other
committee members present their individual reports and will not cover
any of our on court achievements, but would pick out some of the
highlights of some of our off-court activities :-
The club picnic at Lydiard Park last summer.
The Christmas meal/disco
@ The Best Western Wiltshire Hotel and golf club, which was well
supported and enjoyed by all .Nice to see we can all look smart when we
want to!
Several Birthday parties
Club Tour to Italy:
The club undertook our first ever overseas tour to Italy and those who
went enjoyed Italian hospitality and food and drink; and even found time
for a bit of volleyball! Thanks to Cinzia and Phil for making all the
numerous arrangements. Hopefully we will be able to reciprocate the
hospitality to our Italian hosts at some time in the near future!
Challenge Swindon:- This year the club successfully ran the second Beach Volleyball Tournament at Coate Water on behalf of Swindon Borough.
This year was not as well attended by
corporate teams from Swindon as last and the invite to Wiltshire teams
to play a tournament on a second day didn’t materialise due to a lack of
response. But the sun shone and those of us who took part in the two
Bassett teams that entered had a fun time. We should attract some money
towards club funds again (But don’t expect as much as last year!!!!!)
We welcomed some new faces to the club this season but sadly will loose or have lost some old ones as well.
Our Treasurer Sue Mills
had to give up volleyball at the start of the season due to a knee
injury. None the less we all met up for an enjoyable but emotional
evening in Bassett (drink and a curry!). Sue has continued to keep in
touch with the club and support the teams by assisting with the scoring
on match nights. Thanks also to Cinzia for picking up the reins and
taking over the Treasurers role.
Mia Reynolds
wasn’t able to train and play with us in 2008 because of
injury/illness. Mia has now moved back to Sweden with her boys, and some
of us were recently able to call on her to wish her ‘Bon Voyage’! --
She has promised to keep in touch with the club – Another possible tour
in the future?
Craig Rogers
has left to live in Norfolk with his fiancée. Craig has been with the
club for many years and has been very active both as a player and taking
on many organisational roles within the A Team. Craig also carried with
him the heady responsibility of being the fruit of the Bassett Youth
development policy. We wish Craig and Becky well in their future life
together and hope that Craig finds a team in the area to play with.
Jodie (Love It!) Pearn is moving back to Plymouth and will be missed by all – Social Secretary role now vacant!!!!
I’ll close with the final thought that the club is in good health, but we should not rest on our laurels! For the club to continue to develop and improve over the coming seasons we need the continued commitment, enthusiasm, participation and assistance of all our members.
