Your committee co-opted me as Chair after last year’s AGM when no-one volunteered for the role.  Thankfully my job has been easy because your elected representatives have done such a good job running the club!

On your behalf I’d like to thank: Zuzana (Treasurer) who is stepping down after three years keeping us financially solvent; Kathryn who is stepping down as club welfare officer; Mark (Secretary) who keeps us registered and organised; Irwin for his dedication to coaching the men; our team organisers (including Zuzana, Helen and Mark) for organising our matches; and ex-member Richard for maintaining our club website.

And a special thanks to the whole Daniell family (who collectively get my vote for the Kevan Hobbis Award) for supporting and transporting the juniors to matches, coaching them when I’ve been away, officiating matches (men and women) and representing the club at WVA meetings at short notice.  We’d be in a mess without their enthusiastic help and support!

We’re a relatively small club with limited time and space, yet we aim to cater for all our members:

  • Developing individual players (from beginner to regional league, from juniors to over-50s)
  • Developing teams (especially when a match or event is approaching)
  • Indoor in winter, outdoor in summer
  • Leagues, cups and tournaments.

During the indoor season (September to April) we plan a training programme for each team or group during our weekly 3-hour club sessions, which were attended by 37 regular players.  Catering for different groups makes for a crowded match and training schedule, but we aim to achieve a fair share of time for our teams and players:

Unusually we held no social events this year, as our elected social secretary returned to Holland before the season started.  I’m sure the club would benefit if someone would like to organise some social events: maybe trips to watch national league matches; family-friendly activities such as ten-pin bowling or picnics; a Christmas party; or anything else you can think of?

Please tell us if you have ideas for making our club as friendly and successful as possible!
