Secretary's Report 2008-9
Membership
At the end of this season we have 22 active members exactly the same as last year. On this measure the club stayed the same size this season.
Recruitment and Publicity
Anyone
in the Swindon area, who wants to play, can find us via the
Internet. There probably are no other reliable ways of finding us. I
get a steady trickle of emails, via the web site, plus a few phone
calls, from people expressing interest in playing. Best as I can tell
fewer than half of those ever turn up at the Lime Kiln.
The
site gets about 700 visitors per month(down from 1100 last year). They
see about 15,000 pages/month (over 50% up on last years 9000). The
forums are the most read pages by over 3:1. I expect most of that will
be from the members and our huge fan base.
Wiltshire Leagues
We
registered six players for the Aces Team in the Premier Division- the
minimum we can get away with. We registered 22 (28 last year) players
for the Bees in the Premier Division 1. We were able to run the 'B' team
(substantially) without sharing players with the 'A' team. However we
did have some surprising instances when we struggled to get a team we
did not have to concede any matches.
Lime Kiln Centre Facilities
The
centre has instituted a program of user group meetings. They really do
want to communicate with the users – us. I have been to a few of them
and I think it is important to support them. The Centre has been good
to us this year. Over last summer they completely replaced all the
Volleyball equipment. That project didn’t go entirely smoothly it took
much longer than it should and was not properly ready until some weeks
into the season. However we have ultimately managed to get great new
equipment and I still have most of my hair.
