- In our 27th season we have managed to run 3 teams in the Wiltshire Leagues and 1 team in SW Division
- Training and Teams Results - See Coaches Report
- Social - See Social Secretary Report.
- Volleyball has continued outdoors on sand and grass. A
tournament on sand has already taken place @ Swindon Coate Water
organised by Irwin Aiken. One team has already been registered for
Exmouth beach 4’s and another one for Whitfield tournament in Bath, both
in July 2011.
- Regular grass sessions @ Swindon Lydiard Park don’t seem to be
very popular this summer as only 2-3 players turn up on a regular basis,
we have regular apologies and on two occasions, nobody turned up at
all, except the man with the net.
- It seems as we have not gained any new regular members last
season, on the contrary, the number of members have gone down, according
to the club secretary’s figures, but A and B team and Juniors would
definitely benefit from fresh blood.
- The club has suffered this season by a loss of its hall due to a
fire in December 2010, followed by a continuous search for an adequate
training location until training could be resumed again in April @ Lime
Kiln. Only a few training sessions could be provided within 4
consecutive months, matches needed to be re-scheduled from evening to
daytime and booked at various locations. Club members have not seen each
other during this time very often and there was only limited
socialising.
- As a highest priority, I would like to see the club back on its 2
feet again @ its home venue in Wootton Bassett Lime Kiln Sports Centre,
every Sunday, either from 6-9pm or 7-10pm, with regular juniors/team
training sessions and all-member-sessions and high attendance.
- With regular indoor sessions and of course other basic stuff,
such as keeping our Website up-to-date, by being successful in our
leagues/divisions and by socialising on a regular basis with our club
mates, just to name a few, we can get the club to its original state and
perhaps win new club members and also keep the ones we have. I would
also like to go a step further and recommend new club shirts to freshen
up the club’s ‘image’ (if our finances allow).
- Regular outdoor sessions in summer are very important, not only
to have fun or to stay fit, but also to find new members, too. We need
to discuss if Lydiard Park should be discontinued or simply be changed
to a different day/time. Someone suggested Sunday evening… Any other
ideas welcome!
Last but not least…
- Outdoor sessions would benefit from club banners which could
easily be carried together with the outdoor nets and stuck in the
ground. We had lots of spectators watching us playing @ Swindon Coate
Water 2 weeks ago. It would have been nice if we had a banner with our
club name & logo put up on that day.
