Membership
At
the end of this season we have 28 active members, up by five from last
year. The increase is largely due to the ladies playing for the South
West team. In the club's traditional areas it has shrunk slightly.
Recruitment and Publicity
Anyone
in the Swindon area, who wants to play, can find us via the
Internet. There is probably no other reliable way of finding us. I get a
steady trickle of emails, via the web site, plus a few phone calls,
from people expressing interest in playing. Best as I can tell fewer
than half of those ever turn up at the Lime Kiln.
The
site gets about 700 visitors per month (down from 800 last year). They
see about 12,000 pages/month (down from last year’s 17,000). The forums
are the most read pages by over 4:1. I expect most of that will be
from the members and our huge fan base.
Wiltshire Volleyball Association
Our
member, Cliff Ball, began a movement to get the Wiltshire Volleyball
Association back on its feet as a working, communicating organization.
Cliff took on the chairmanship and has worked hard to get the group back
on it's feet. Wootton Bassett has organized the WVA competitions (Dave
Kinder cup and start/end of season Tournaments for a few years. This
year we were able to pass that role to Devizes. We have run the Mixed
Leagues this season.
Wiltshire Leagues
We registered six players for the Aces Team in the Premier Division -
the minimum allowed. We registered 9 (18 last year) players for the
Bees, in Division 1, and 8 players for the Ladies and Juniors. There is
no restriction on playing above your registered division. We were able
to run the 'B' team without sharing players with the 'A' team.
The
ladies had more opportunitites to play this season in the SouthWest
squad. There were some instances when we struggled to get a Bees team
but we did not have to concede any matches.
